THE DOCTOR'S NEW TRICKS

"It turns out the Doctor may be real, after all."
Gerry Standing
'New Tricks'

While waiting along with the rest of the TV-obsessed and especially 'Doctor Who'-obsessed blogging world for yesterday's announcement, I watched this week's episode of 'New Tricks'. (New for America, anyway. It aired in the UK a few months ago/last year.)

During the re-opened investigation into the 1975 death of a guitarist and song-writer, the UCOS team kept finding mention of a drug dealer known only as "The Doctor". But they began to question whether he actually existed or not.

While Gerry and Sandra Pullman were discussing the mysterious Doctor, Brian "Memory" Lane suddenly perked up and asked, "Who?" And they both looked at him with incredulity.

Okay, so it's the standard splainin. For our interpretation of the scene, it was a play on words - Gerry: "-the Doctor." Brian: "Who?" - and it was supposed to look like Sandra and Gerry thought Brian was referring to the show.

But within the reality of Toobworld, they were just shocked that he had only just suddenly started paying attention to the conversation. (Brian can be a little out of it at times.)
