THE EIGHTH DOCTOR MEETS THE KLINGONS

'Ij Daq jIH!

Here's another pozz'ble, just pozz'ble, suggestion for a crossover - 'Doctor Who' and 'Star Trek'.

The two series are definitely connected in my mind - the TARDIS was seen in an episode of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'.  And the Second Incarnation of the Doctor has visited the planet Vulcan, from which he must have picked up those mind-meld techniques displayed by the Tenth Incarnation of the Doctor.

So what would be a good story for the Doctor which involves Klingons?

Of course, I want it to be the Eighth Incarnation, played by Paul McGann.  And it should take place in the year 2293, when Praxis, the moon of Qo'noS, exploded and threatened to destroy all life on the Klingon homeworld.  (This was the cataclysmic event which led to the uneasy peace between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets.)

The official story regarding the explosion was that the Klingon miners digging for the energy to be found in the moon's molten core were careless and dug too deeply.  But what if that was just a cover story?  What if there was an alien cause behind that explosion?  Perhaps the Doctor happened to show up, with Dr. Grace Holloway in tow, and helped the entire corps of Klingon engineers to escape the devastation.  (This would give Grace her first chance to practice her medical skills with a xeno-biology slant.)

Having seen "The Hobbit" on Christmas Eve, I like the idea of the Doctor as the Burglar - sneaking into the core of Praxis to rescue the Klingons.  Even better to have thirteen of them, standing in for the Dwarves.  (Although I suppose Ferengi would make a better substitute.)  And as for the alien threat?  Who could survive better in such an inferno than the Pyrovites?  Perhaps even a Pyrovite wyrm as a stand-in for Smaug......

Do you like that idea?

Hu'tegh Soh if you don't!
