Figured I should have a post for Presidents' Day....
Shonda Rhimes has created a new TV series, following her previous successes
of 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Private Practice'.
'Scandal' will premiere on April 5 at 10 PM.
Breaking free of the medical drama format, 'Scandal' cncerns Olivia Pope,
the former communications director for the President of the United States. But
even though she left that job, she still finds herself drawn back into White
House affairs.
Since the President will be seen in the series (played by Tony Goldwyn),
'Scandal' must be relegated to another TV dimension.
It's always "pozz'ble, just pozz'ble" that the previous administration
could be mentioned on the show (as happened with 'The West Wing' and the funeral
for Owen Lassiter.) For the time being, I won't make any claims that 'Scandal'
belongs in the TV dimension for 'The West Wing' or 'Commander-In-Chief' because
of that.
But if the series never mentions a previous administration?
I'd like to think Matt Santos got a second term in 'The West Wing', so I
don't want to place 'Scandal' in that dimension. But the world of
'Commander-In-Chief' might be just the place for it to call home.
Then again, I think I've put a lot of other candidates into the world of
President Mackenzie Allen already. Maybe it's time to expand the TV Universe
with a new dimension.....
BCnU!
