BILLIE LIAR?

In the 'Lou Grant' episode "Aftershock" from October of 1977, Billie Newman claimed that she had been on the Tribune staff in 1971. That would seem to go against the show's continuity as Billie is only introduced into the series a few episodes before.

Two possible splainins:
1] either she worked there previously and then left, only to return
2] or she was lying

I like both versions, so I'm not going to choose.....

(Billie is seen here in a 'Lou Grant' episode with Flo Meredith, the "aunt" of Mary Richards on several episodes of 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show'.)

The actual explanation was mentioned in Linda Kelsey's first episode - she came over from the newspaper's features section to the city desk. In fact her first episode included a certain amount of animosity about someone coming from features to do "hard news."

True, but that doesn't mean that she was there in 1971. I realize it's only a matter of six years, but I got the feeling from "Henhouse" that she had not been a member of the "Today" section's staff for that long....

But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Won't be the first time, won't be the last!

Thanks for checking in, as always, Brent!
