Since the younger Shawn appears almost every week in the opening flashback, the change in actors was really noticeable. And even this "meta" exchange of dialogue in a dream sequence didn't help smooth over the discrepancy:

LINKIN' HAZE: "RAISING HOPE" & "BATMAN"

'Raising Hope' presented a pop culture reference which wasn't a Zonk that needed to be disabled. In fact, it could be considered a missing link connection!

Batman is a multiversal character. He started out in comic books, created by Bob Kane; appeared in at least one movie serial; burst wide open with the 1966 camp classic TV series; was a character in several shows set in the Tooniverse; was revitalized by Tim Burton; and is now reborn with a new franchise.

In the Halloween episode of 'Raising Hope', Jimmy Chance and Sabrina dressed up as Batman and Robin for the deli guy's party. Sabrina's boyfriend later came dressed as Batman as well.

There was no mention of the movies, the TV show, the cartoons or the comic books. They were just there as Batman and Robin. And in the main Toobworld, Batman and Robin were real costumed crime-fighters who saw their heyday peak in the mid-1960's.

Batman and Robin share the same TV dimension as Jimmy Chance and his family and friends.....

THE FRIDAY HALL OF FAMER, 02/28/20 - LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT

So this month, February has had Detective Odain Tutuola as the TVXOHOF showcase, and Ice-T has been inducted as a member of the League of Themselves with some connection to the fact that his televersion plays Fin in the Toobworld version of ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’.

TEASING EARL ON "RAISING HOPE"

'House' wasn't the only show to have a shout-out crossover with a past TV series during premiere week.

While the Chance family was having breakfast in the pilot episode of 'Raising Hope', they saw the news bulletin announcing that the one night stand whom son Jimmy had bedded in his van, and who was now in their bathroom, was a serial killer.

Afterwards, the Channel 3 anchorman turned to the lighter side of the news:

"A small time crook with a long list of wrongs he was making amends for has finally finished. And you'll never guess how it ended."

(singing): And I guess we never will.

Jimmy's Mom, Virginia Chance, unplugged the TV at that point and clobbered Lucy Carlysle (aka Joan Doyle) over the head with it as she sat back down at the kitchen table.
That last news story was O'Bviously a reference to Earl Hickey, the main character from Greg Garcia's last TV show, 'My Name Is Earl'.

DEAD TOOTH AND NOTHING BUT DEAD TOOTH

'Raising Hope' and 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' both featured girls with a dead front tooth within the space of a few weeks. Greg Garcia, creator of 'Raising Hope' talked about the coincidence in this interview with "Culture Vulture":

Will we be seeing more of Shelley (Kate Micucci), the babysitter with a dead tooth and a crush on Jimmy?
Yes, she comes back quite often, but we took her dead tooth away. I watched the season premiere of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which I think is the funniest show on TV. And they had a woman with a dead tooth. And I was like, "Awww, shit! Ours hasn't even aired yet! How the fuck can you have two people with dead tooths?" So we shot an episode with her last week where we took her dead tooth away. I thought, What's the point? They did a dead tooth, I don't want to keep doing it.
How do you explain it?
Martha's character asks her, "What happened to your dead tooth?" And Shelley says, "Well, I thought it was unique and then I was watching a hilarious episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and a girl had a dead tooth, so I decided to have it fixed." I just figured, we got all our dead-tooth jokes out. And their dead tooth looked better than ours. That just bummed me out. Their's was all cool and gray. Ours didn't look as good. But Shelley has more to offer than a dead tooth.

So he solved his problem, but created one for me at Toobworld Central. The Chance Family and the gang at Paddy's Bar should be existing in the same TV dimension. But Shelley supposedly watched an episode of 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia'.

So here's my splainin:

What Shelley saw was an episode of Dennis Reynolds' video podcast, his "vodcast".

What's that, you say? You didn't know Dennis had a vodcast? Well, it's something he must do outside the parameters of the sitcom's half hour. Or during the commercials.

So Dennis must have done an episode of his vodcast about his quickie marriage and divorce to Maureen Ponderosa. Pictures of Maureen with her dead tooth on that vodcast prompted Shelley to rethink having one herself.

IT'S A CHRISTMAS HONORS FRIDAY HALL OF FAMER, CHARLIE BROWN!

 
I guess I should have consulted the calendar!  I said with the last entry into the Television Crossover Hall of Fame that it was the last inductee as a Friday Crossover Hall of Famer, but there was still the Christmas Honors member.  Well!  Christmas is on a Friday, so we get two in one!

It’s a Christmas miracle!

So we’re wrapping up this year’s theme of bringing the televersions of our own TV shows into the TVXOHOF with today’s entry.  For the last eleven months, the new members have covered all sorts of TV shows – sci-fi, detective shows, talk shows, sitcoms. a game show, and now….?

We’re going with a one-shot, a traditional holiday special.

A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS

 “A Charlie Brown Christmas” is a 1965 animated television special, and is the first TV special based on the comic strip “Peanuts”, by Charles M. Schulz. Produced by Lee Mendelson and directed by Bill Melendez, the program made its debut on CBS on December 9, 1965. In this special, Charlie Brown finds himself depressed despite the onset of the cheerful holiday season. Lucy suggests he direct a neighborhood Christmas play, but his best efforts are ignored and mocked by his peers. After Linus tells Charlie Brown about the true meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown cheers up, and the Peanuts gang unites to celebrate the Christmas season.

After the comic strip's debut in 1950, “Peanuts” had become a phenomenon worldwide by the mid-1960s. The special was commissioned and sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company, and was written over a period of several weeks, and produced on a small budget in six months. In casting the characters, the producers took an unconventional route, hiring child actors.

The program's soundtrack was similarly unorthodox, featuring a jazz score by pianist Vince Guaraldi. Its lack of a laugh track (a staple in US television animation in this period), in addition to its tone, pacing, music, and animation, led both the producers and the network to predict the project would be a disaster.

However, contrary to their collective apprehension, “A Charlie Brown Christmas” received high ratings and acclaim from critics. It has been honored with an Emmy and a Peabody Award, and has become an annual presentation in the United States, airing on broadcast television during the Christmas season. Its success paved the way for a series of “Peanuts” television specials and films. Its jazz soundtrack achieved commercial success, selling four million copies in the US. Live theatrical versions of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” have been staged.

In the thirty-three years I've lived here, I've only done one of those things. And I've never seen either Woody Allen or Maury Povich around town.....

However, last night I saw Lily Tomlin at the performance of 'La Cage Aux Folles' on Broadway (starring TV vets Kelsey Grammer, Fred Applegate, and Alyce Beasley). My friend Mark spoke to her after the show; I hope she appreciated how much she meant to his life back in his teen years.....

It certainly didn't do 'The Whole Truth' any good that the Chilean miners were rescued. ABC bumped the show off the air for a special report with Diane Sawyer......

I know this is going to sound racist, but one reason white guys are hired more often to play spies is because they can blend in better for most situations around the world. Even if there were black Irish prisoners in Mountjoy Prison, isn't Boris Kodjoe TOO noticeable? Anybody else who had been in that prison at the same time he claimed to be would surely have remembered a guy who looked like him!

I really enjoyed 'Rubicon' on AMC. I only wish that it had been a guaranteed one season series so that they had an end game in place to wrap everything up. It's the type of show in which the longer it goes on, the less believable it will probably become. I would have been sorry if I never got the chance to see characters like Kale Ingram and Truxton Spengler again, but that would have been off-set by a memorable conclusion to the series. ('The Prisoner' is the example I hold up.)

I wish 'The Sopranos' had been like that. Imagine that first year wrapped up with Tony actually smothering his mother to death. How powerful would that show have been? Instead, it kept coming back for more seasons, and in my opinion (and I realize I'm in the minority), it just kept diminishing in quality and believability.

The As Seen On TV showcase for Thursday was Senator Richard Russell. Wright King looked nothing like the historical figure, however. The man they should have cast was just making inroads into the business at the time - David Ogden Stiers. The role of Senator Russell was a small one and Stiers wasn't a name yet, so it would have been perfect.
