From the New York Times:
George McGovern, the United States senator who won the Democratic Party’s presidential
nomination in 1972 as an opponent of the war in Vietnam and a champion of
liberal causes, and who was then trounced by President Richard M. Nixon in the
general election, died early Sunday in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was 90.

Senator George McGovern, whose ill-fated campaign for the Presidency
usually clouds over all the great things he did, had a presence in Toobworld.
He hosted 'Saturday Night Live' and he appeared in that infamous dream of Dr.
Bob Hartley's in 'Newhart'. That's why I've included him in my list of TV
personae who have passed away over the year for 2012.
Here's his monologue from his appearance on 'Saturday Night Live'.
Good night and may God bless.......
