Never mind." She realized that there was no way he'd know or even care about
the explanation.
Whether she was about to tell him that 'Columbo' was a TV show character or
that he had been an actual police lieutenant in Los Angeles doesn't really
matter.
'Elementary' does not take place in Earth Prime-Time, but in some alternate TV dimension where there was no consulting detective in Victorian England, either in the "reality" of that TV world or as a character in the stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
