JO'S THEORY OF RELATEEVEETY DOWN UNDER

After his UNIT assistant Elizabeth "Liz" Shaw left to take a position at Cambridge, the Doctor (in his Third Incarnation) worked solo in the UNIT laboratories until Josephine "Jo" Grant barged into his life as his new assistant.  She was not originally assigned to UNIT but had used her connections to gain the position.

That connection was her uncle, a once famous spy during World War II named Jack Canning.  (He was the brother of Jo's mother.)  Having retired (for the most part) from that life, he now (1973) was working for the United Nations, the world diplomatic organization which governed UNIT.

Jack Canning had at least one son, by the name of Frank, who was born in the early 1950s.  Jo's cousin traveled to Australia after university to seek his fortune.  There he met a young woman named Sheila (born 1956) and they fell in love, living in Frankston.  After Frank's death, Sheila moved to Erinsborough to be close to her grandson Kyle Canning.

After they got married, they had two children - Gary (birth date unknown) and Naomi (born 1982).  Gary had two children - with his first wife, he had a son, Kyle in 1990, and ten years later he had a daughter named Xanthe with Brooke Butler who was a con artist who had no hesitation in scamming her own daughter and her friends.

This theory of relateeveety for Jo Grant is pure conjecture.  It is a theory, after all.  But it makes for a nice link to the Australian soap opera 'Neighbours'.
