BEST CROSSOVER 'The Big Bang Theory' ("The VCR Illumination") & 'Young Sheldon'
'Young Sheldon' is the prequel to the long-running hit 'The Big Bang Theory', beginning with Sheldon's life in 1988. The original sitcom is about sci-fi fans but it's not sci-fi. So it's limited as to how they could crossover. But they pulled it off with Sheldon and his wife Amy watching a videotape of himself as "Young Sheldon" (talking to himself in the Future.) Most of the tape was recorded over, however, so we got Sheldon's brother Georgie and their father into the crossover as well.
BEST INTERDIMENSIONAL CROSSOVER “ELSEWORLDS” ‘The Flash’ ‘Green Arrow’ ‘Supergirl’
By leaving ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ out of the game, there was a more focused precision to the storyline. Plus it made more room for appearances by Superman, Lois Lane, Batwoman, Brainiac 5, the Martian Manhunter and the Flash of Earth 90 and/or the 90s. It also helped free Supergirl from the shadow of her Krypton cousin and left the audience with an intriguing promise of a Superbaby as well as the threat of the legendary Crisis of Infinite Earths.
WORST CROSSOVER ‘Scandal’ & ‘How To Get Away With Murder’
One thing this crossover caused was that ‘HTGAWM’ could no longer be in the main Toobworld. It now belongs in the alternate TV dimension where the President was Fitzgerald Grant and not Barack Obama. (This could be Black Toobworld.)
BEST CROSSOVER BETWEEN GENRES ‘NCIS’ & ‘American Pickers’
Gibbs and Ducky are busy watching the reality show ‘American Pickers’ on TV when they see host Michael Wolfe handling a 200-year-old war stick that could be a match from a decade-old cold case. Gibbs tracks down Wolfe, who bought the stick from some seller which reopens the case. BEST SERIES/COMMERCIAL CROSSOVER 'General Hospital' & Kentucky Fried Chicken
The Extra Crispy Colonel somehow actually crossed over into the main Toobworld. Usually blipverts are part of Earth Prime-Time, but the only Colonel Sanders in the main Toobworld would be the real Harlan Sanders. I'm not sure what Toobworld holds all of these ersatz Sanderses. Maybe Skitlandia? They handle recastaways on a regular basis.
BEST CROSSOVER PLOTLINE ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ – “The Undiscovered Country”
The episode brought in Peter Stone from ‘Chicago Law’ to attend his father’s funeral. (Ben Stone, the original ADA from the original ‘Law & Order’.) By the end of the episode, he had signed on to be the new ADA with the exit of Rafael Barba. BEST HISTORICAL CROSSOVER ‘Doctor Who’ – “Rosa” & ‘Touched By An Angel’ “Black Like Monica”
What makes this work is that Toobworld makes allowances in recasting due to the aging process. “Rosa” featured a younger actress playing Rosa Parks back in 1955, while Ms. Parks made a League of Themselves cameo at the end of “Black Like Monica”. BEST HOLIDAY CROSSOVER
During the Thanksgiving Day Parade coverage, a new commercial aired in which the Grinch was trying to drum up interest in his new movie. A Minion wandered into the frame and began laughing at the Grinch and his sad little sign. BEST TRIVIAL CROSSOVER ‘Supergirl’ – “Elseworlds 3” Agent Gary Green of ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’
Gary was a bartender working for “Mobster” Cisco Ramon in the new reality created by Dr. Deegan. So this was a four-way crossover, just not on the scale everybody wanted. BESTWEIRDEST INTER-DIMENSIONAL CROSSOVER
Kevin Spacey broke his silence about the allegations against him. Kind of…. He put out this video in which for all intents and purposes he was Frank Underwood of ‘House Of Cards’ and not himself.
BEST THEORETICAL CROSSOVER OF THE YEAR ‘Happy!’ – with ‘Supernatural’, ‘Imaginary Mary’, and ‘Moone Boy’
Imaginary friends look to become the next great subset of TV characters, replacing demons, witches, and ghosts. BEST COMMERCIAL CROSSOVER Tide – “It’s a Tide Ad”
David Harbour set up the premise in the first quarter of the Super Bowl: that if Tide is the number one detergent sold, than the clothes and linens in other commercials make those blipverts Tide ads. Over the course of the game, there was at least one commercial which would then turn out to be a Tide ad – Old Spice and Mr. Clean were the most O’Bvious crossovers. But there were generic references with beer, mattresses, and even an old age PSA. It got me thinking that in the background of other commercials, there’s a Tide ad waiting to break free.
THE TOONIVERSE “Rocket Mortgage” & ‘Yogi Bear’ BEST COMMERCIAL CROSSOVER WITH A DIFFERENT TV DIMENSION “McGruff Fights Baby Talk”
McGruff the Crime Dog is a Tooniverse crossover which is rare, but not unheard of in Toobworld. In this Geico ad, he worked with live action humans at the precinct.
BEST COMMERCIAL CROSSOVER WITH A DIFFERENT MEDIUM "Home Alone" & Google Assistant
BEST REALITY PROGRAMMING CROSSOVER ‘Queer Eye For The Straight Guy’ & ‘Nailed It’
BEST TOONIVERSE CROSSOVER ‘Disenchantment’ & ‘Futurama’
This is still just a fan theory, but it’s believed that the Netflix fantasy series takes place in that passage of Time in which Philip J. Fry was frozen in the cryogenic chamber which we witness in fast motion outside the window of the cryogenic offices. So Princess Bean's world will have a limited shelf life if true.
As the Trickster once said, "Reality is boring, that's why I change it whenever I can."
I'm just "The Man Who Viewed Too Much", and "Inner Toob" is a blog exploring and celebrating the 'reality' of an alternate universe in which everything that ever happened on TV actually takes place.
Most of my theories about the TV Universe come from thinking inside the box and thus can't be proven. But I've never been one to shy away from a tall tale.....
