This is the month of my birth. And so for the tenth anniversary celebration of the TV Crossover Hall of Fame, I wanted each week's inductee to be somebody - or place - that was special.
For the League of Themselves entry this week, we have John Ritter - a very sweet and very funny actor who left us long before his time upon this stage should have played out. He was just reaching his prime as a dramatic actor, but had already proven his skill as a comedic master on TV.
And he played L. Frank Baum, the author of "The Wizard Of Oz" books! As that's my favorite movie, that goes a long way in my book!
Here are the TV shows in which he appeared as himself:
"TV Funhouse"
- Chinese New Year's Day (2001)
"Dave's World"
- The Accidental Tourists (1995)
- A Room with a View (1994)
"The Larry Sanders Show"
- The Fourteenth Floor (1994)
- Off Camera (1993)
"Life with Lucy"
- Lucy Makes a Hit with John Ritter (1986)
And in that TV dimension in which our TV shows are depicted as TV shows (thanks to behind-the-scenes TV movies), John Ritter was played by Bret Anthony in "Behind The Camera: The Unauthorized Story Of 'Three's Company'". This may not be much of a tribute, but 'twill serve.....
