TVXOHOF TIP O' THE HAT TRIBUTE, 06/09/2024 - DONALD DUCK

SOMEBODY IS CELEBRATING THEIR 90th BIRTHDAY TODAY!

He’s got enough credits to be inducted today into the Television Crossover Hall of Fame anyway, but reaching the age of 90 is a big milestone.  We know he will be hale and hearty in ten years for that major milestone, a centennial celebration.  But I know I won’t be, so it’s better to do this now….

From the Hollywood Walk of Fame:
According to the Disney canon, particularly in the 1942 short "Donald Gets Drafted", Donald's birthday is officially recognized as June 9, 1934, the day his debut film, "The Wise Little Hen", was released.

DONALD DUCK

From Wikipedia:
Donald Duck is a cartoon character created by The Walt Disney Company. Donald is an anthropomorphic white duck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet. He typically wears a sailor shirt and cap with a bow tie. Donald is known for his semi-intelligible speech and his mischievous, temperamental, and pompous personality.

Along with his friend Mickey Mouse, Donald was included in TV Guide's list of the 50 greatest cartoon characters of all time in 2002, and has earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has appeared in more films than any other Disney character.

All of those theatrically released films mean nothing when it comes to Donald Duck’s qualification for membership in the Television Crossover Hall of Fame.

But with these TV appearances, he can duck-walk proudly through the front door.

TELEVISION SERIES
  • Disney anthology television series (1954-1968)
  • DuckTales (1987, as recurring character)
  • Donald Duck Presents (compilation of earlier shorts)
  • Donald's Quack Attack (compilation of earlier shorts)
  • Bonkers (1993, episode "Going Bonkers")
  • Quack Pack (1996–1997)
  • Mickey Mouse Works (1999–2000)
  • House of Mouse (2001–2003)
  • Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (2006–2016)
  • Mickey Mouse (2013–2019)
  • Mickey and the Roadster Racers/Mickey Mouse Mixed-Up Adventures (2017–2021)
  • DuckTales (2017–2021)
  • Legend of the Three Caballeros (2018)
  • Mickey Go Local (2019)
  • The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse (2020–2023)
  • Mickey Mouse Funhouse (2021–present)
Almost all of Donald's credits lock him into the Tooniverse, but on occasion he was able to cross over into the live-action world of Earth Prime-Time, especially to confer with the Boss (or argue with his "Voice", Clarence Nash.)

Donald Duck definitely had a cultural impact on Toobworld:

Apparently, Donald had a promotional connection to the Wold Newton Universe when he crossed paths with another Disney TV star at the time, Zorro...

Welcome to the Television Crossover Hall of Fame, my fine-feathered friend!  You may already know some of the other members; I'm certain almost all of them know who you are!

In fact, you'll be reunited not only Uncle Walt, but with Mr. Television himself....

Just remember to control your temper in here....

Well... at least try to control it....
