WHO-GROOT? CHEEM CHEEM CHEERIO!

I'm writing this back in May, but I don't need a crystal ball to figure that "Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2" will be one of the top ten movies for 2017.  Of course, this won't be running until January 1st, so if I am wrong, you'll never know.  

Unless something happens to me before I can wipe out the evidence....

Anyway, a major reason for this movie to be in the stratosphere is Baby Groot.  Not only cute as the dickens, but he's going to be a massive marketing ploy.  Think of the toys!  And he (it?) is the featured character used in two tie-in commercials - one for GEICO and one for Ford EcoSport.  

And even though they are of different franchises, 'Doctor Who' could capitalize on the concept of Groot.

Not the actual character - not the original bounty hunter, the cutting, the baby or the teenage Groot.  'Doctor Who' is too original for that and besides - different parent companies.  But the show could bring in a previously suggested character from the 2005 season which had Christopher Eccleston as the "Ninth" Doctor to suggest "grootish" connections.

namely, Jabe, Lute and Coffa. 

(A bark-skinned woman enters with two larger male escorts.) 

(The trees go up to the Doctor.) 

JABE:

(She gives the Doctor a rooted twig in a small pot.)

So there you are - that cutting could be living somewhere within the cavernous TARDIS, getting older all the Time, probably with a tutor to help it in its studies.  Eventually becoming its own ambulatory, sentient, humanoid tree.

Should they ever introduce this former sapling descended from Jabe's Grampa, I'm sure it's a full-grown tree-folk, probably a male, who may have already left the company of the Doctor.  And because the style of tree people is different from Groot's people - heavily made-up actors vs. CGI, - and since the episode was broadcast nearly a decade before the movie came out, 'Doctor Who' can cash in on their own plotline.  

Of course, too much time has passed for the TV show to deal with a Baby Grampa, but that aspect can always be revisited in fan fiction.

At this point the Cheemian should be an adult, and as such could hold its own in the arguments, banter, and battles as do all of the Companions in the past.  

Here's hoping the show eventually does address the possibility.

And I'm not the only one who thought of the possible connection between 'Doctor Who' and "The Guardians Of The Galaxy":
