TVXOHOF, 07/21/2013 - BUZZ ALDRIN
July is going to be one of those months in which we get more than one induction into the TV Crossover Hall of Fame. As today is the 44th anniversary of the first Moon landing, it seemed only fitting that we salute one of the first men on the Moon with more than just the daily showcase for the League of Themselves.....
BUZZ ALDRIN
From Wikipedia:
Buzz Aldrin (born Edwin Eugene Aldrin, Jr., January 20, 1930) is an American astronaut, and the second person to walk on the Moon. He was the lunar module pilot on Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing in history. On July 21, 1969, he set foot on the Moon, following mission commander Neil Armstrong. He is also a retired United States Air Force pilot.
Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that landed the first humans on the Moon, Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, on July 20, 1969, at 20:18 UTC. Armstrong became the first to step onto the lunar surface six hours later on July 21 at 02:56 UTC. Armstrong spent about two and a half hours outside the spacecraft, Aldrin slightly less, and together they collected 47.5 pounds (21.5 kg) of lunar material for return to Earth. A third member of the mission, Michael Collins, piloted the command spacecraft alone in lunar orbit until Armstrong and Aldrin returned to it just under a day later for the trip back to Earth.
Here are the shows (and a TV movie!) in which Buzz Aldrin appeared as his fictional televersion:
- "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble" (1976)
- 'Numb3rs' episode "Killer Chat" (2006)
- 'The Big Bang Theory' (2012)
- '30 Rock' episode, "The Moms" (2010)
Also:
- 'Sesame Street'
- 'The Fall Guy'
- 'Head Of The Class'
- and sadly:
- 'Punky Brewster'
(Seeing George Gaynes in a dress may have sent Aldrin over the edge. Maybe that's why he was kind of barkers in that '30 Rock' episode.....)
I would also include his participation in 'Dancing With The Stars', in which he came in 10th place during the 10th season. Why not? It's not like his membership in the Hall would have been dependent on it.
And since his interview on 'Da Ali G Show' was conducted by a fictional character, that qualifies as well!
He also made his mark in the Tooniverse:
- 'The Simpsons' episode "Deep Space Homer" (1994)
- 'Futurama' (2011)
- 'Recess'
And even with a cartoon televersion in play, his live action televersion was able to communicate with the Tooniverse, probably from one of the Borderlands.
Being a guest on the 'Space Ghost: Coast To Coast' talk show couldn't have been an easy experience!
So here's to you, Buzz! I'd say this is one more accolade to add to your many honors, but I'll understand if you choose to ignore it......
BCnU!
