After watching the failed pilot of 'Mockingbird Lane' last week, I started
giving thought to Marilyn's situation as the "odd" one in the Munster family
(because she was beautiful and basically normal.)
But since 'Mockingbird Lane' takes place in the "Evil Mirror" TV dimension,
I turned my attention to the Marilyn Munster of Earth Prime-Time. However, the
pilot did devote a little time to Marilyn's backstory (how her mother tried to
eat her as soon as she was born, how Grandpa doesn't want her around because
she's such a freak) and that's what triggered me into wondering if the Marilyn
of the main Toobworld really was as normal as she appeared......
And I came to the conclusion that perhaps Marilyn was just as monstrous as
the rest of the family.
In folklore traced back to medieval legend, a succubus (plural succubi) is
a female supernatural being who takes the form of a human woman in order to
seduce men, usually through sexual intercourse. Religious traditions hold that
repeated intercourse with a succubus may result in the deterioration of health
or even death.
In modern fictional representations, a succubus is often depicted as a highly attractive seductress or enchantress; whereas, in the past, succubi were generally depicted as frightening and demonic.
According to the "Malleus Maleficarum", or "Witches' Hammer", written by Heinrich Kramer (Insitoris) in 1486 (I own a copy!), a succubus collects semen from the men she seduces. The incubi or male demons then use the semen to impregnate human females, thus explaining how demons could apparently sire children despite the traditional belief that they were incapable of reproduction.

I think this could be the splainin behind Marilyn - she was a succubus. It
would also splain away why she ran through so many boyfriends - aside from those
boyfriends getting a look at her family. Off-screen, she ended up sucking the
life-force out of them, maybe even their souls.
MARILYN THE SUCCUBUS, ABOUT TO STRIKE |
After she basically sucked them
to death, she coolly returned to being the "sweet young thing" everyone saw. I
wonder if her aunt and uncle even knew that Marilyn wasn't a mutant of
normality......
And this splainin would also de-Zonk the "Darrin Discrepancy" - after a year of playing the role of Marilyn Munster, Beverly Owen left the show and was replaced by Pat Priest. As the role called for nothing more than Marilyn being blonde, sweet, and pretty, the fog of memory doesn't make much of a distinction between the two (unlike the case of Agnes Kravitz from 'Bewitched'.) But a change was made and now we know how it happened - as is the case with the pan-dimensional demi-gods, succubi can take more than one form......
BCnU!
In Munsters Today (an alternate timeline since it conflicts with the original post-show films), Marilyn is the daughter of Henry Jekyll.
