From the New York Times:
Although her career spanned several decades and included a stint on the soap opera "Another World," [Anne] Meacham is probably best known for her work in the plays of Tennessee Williams, who once praised her in an article for The New York Times, saying, "There's nothing she won't say or do onstage without any sign of embarrassment."
Ms. Meacham made her film debut in "Lilith" in 1964 and made many television appearances in the 50's and 60's before joining the cast of "Another World" in 1972 as Louise Goddard, an oddball maid.

Ms. Meacham was 80 years old.

Do you really feel it necessary to post obits for everybody who played characters on TV? This one seemed really flimsy to be mentioned. I saw the Times obit and maybe for the theater world, sure, she should be paid some kind of tribute, but I'm not so sure she deserved one for her TV work.
ReplyDeleteI probably sound like a heartless snob, don't I?
Everybody's entitled to their opinion.....
ReplyDeleteTo steal a line from Lou Grant, Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.
Who knows if her contributions to the dramatis personae of Toobworld had any part to play in the grand scheme?
I'm pretty sure Master Po or Master Khan had a Shaolin saying that would apply; something about the smallest pebble spreading ripples across the pond....
For all I know, her maid Louise Brooks played a pivotal role in 'Another World' to link it to some other soap opera. 'AW' is a Toobworld hub, from which many other shows can be connected. I don't remember all the details, but I did write it up once with a graph for the old Tubeworld Dynamic site.
