In 1903 he received the Nobel Prize in Physics with his wife, Maria Sklodowska-Curie, and Henri Becquerel, "in recognition of the extraordinary services they have rendered by their joint researches on the radiation phenomena discovered by Professor Henri Becquerel".

AS SEEN ON TV: THE "TWO AND A HALF MEN" CAST

Normally I'd be running a 'Boardwalk Empire' historical figure on Sundays, in preparation for that night's new episode on HBO. And I do have one on tap, but he's a biggie (despite being so short!) So I thought it best to hold off until maybe the day of the season finale - just in case there are no more to come in the rest of the episodes.

Nowadays, the commercials are built right in to the program, with all of the product placements. But once upon a time, when shows were completely sponsored by one company, the TV characters appeared in those blipverts to extol their sponsor's goods.

I find them charming since they help expand the TV Universe.
