In the last few years, the Television Crossover Hall of Fame inducts actual TV series into the Hall.  These are not the TV shows as we watched them back in the Trueniverse; these are the televersions of those shows, as either seen or mentioned in other TV series.

I had already planned September to be a double tribute to the late David Lynch, who revolutionized the Television landscape with ‘Twin Peaks’.  And then I thought:  “Why not make it a tribute three times over?  When was the last time TV had a triplecast?”

And so with this ceremony, the TVXOHOF is proud to welcome the televersion of….

These are just some of the TV shows in Earth Prime-Time – the main Toobworld* - which also have their own ‘Twin Peaks’:

To be qualified for membership in the TVXOHOF, a minimum of 3 separate appearances are required, and ‘Twin Peaks’ easily covered that.  But I’m thinking from now on, since pop culture references are always good for a quick mention in the dialogue, that I should make it harder for TV show televersions.  

We’ll see… but first, a piece of pie to mull it over.

* ‘Twin Peaks’ is actually a multi-dimensional series, with fictional televersions to be found in alternate Toobworlds like Toobworld-DCU and especially in the Tooniverse.  But Earth Prime-Time is the Hall’s main focus, so we’re focusing on that.
 

TVXOHOF, SEPTEMBER 2025 (CREATOR EDITION) - DAVID LYNCH

Every September, the Television Crossover Hall of Fame honors a creator for their work in expanding the Television Universe (whether they meant to or not.)  This year, Life, and the lack thereof, led to this choice to be made now, when I was hoping there would be more to be discovered about that little town in the Pacific Northwest known as Twin Peaks….

David Keith Lynch (January 20, 1946 – January 15, 2025) was an American filmmaker, visual artist, musician, and actor. Often called a "visionary" and acclaimed for films distinguished by their surrealist and experimental qualities, Lynch is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. In a career spanning more than five decades, he received numerous accolades, including the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival in 2006 and an Academy Honorary Award in 2019.

Lynch and Mark Frost created the ABC surrealist horror-mystery series 'Twin Peaks' (1990–1991), for which he received five Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. Lynch co-wrote and directed its film prequel, "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" (1992) and a third season in 2017. His acting career included [a role] on 'Twin Peaks.'

'Twin Peaks' is an American surrealist mystery-horror drama television series created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. It premiered on ABC on April 8, 1990, and ran for two seasons until its cancellation in 1991. The show returned in 2017 for a third season on Showtime.

Set in the fictional Pacific Northwest town of Twin Peaks, the series follows an investigation led by FBI special agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) into the murder of local teenager Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). The show's narrative draws on the characteristics of detective fiction, but its uncanny tone, supernatural elements, and campy, melodramatic portrayal of eccentric characters also draw from American horror and soap opera tropes. Like much of Lynch's work, it is distinguished by surrealism, distinctive cinematography, and offbeat humor. The musical score was composed by Angelo Badalamenti with Lynch.

‘Twin Peaks’ is considered a landmark turning point in television drama and often listed among the greatest television series of all time. The 2017 revival also received widespread critical acclaim; film journal Cahiers du cinéma named it the best film of the 2010s.

That theatrical movie is considered by the Toobworld Commission to be part of the TV Universe, in much the same way as most of the ‘Star Trek’ film franchise, those first couple of ‘McHale’s Navy’ movies (NOT the remake!), and “Maverick” are also an expansion of Toobworld.

Lynch and Frost hit on something which resonated with the viewing public and despite the networks trying to return to what once was, echoes of the dark vision simmering underneath this series echo throughout Toobworld, bubbling up when least expected.

And who knows?  Even though Lynch is now gone, maybe someone will come along with an equally skewed vision and revisit that lumber town… if for nothing else but the damned good pie.
